My Rushank Gifting Co. Story: When Faith Looks Like Folly

I recall that night as if it were yesterday.
Sitting on my bedroom floor in Mumbai in a cross-legged position, surrounded by product samples, unopened emails, and a pit in my stomach. The fan was blowing out hot air around me as I looked at my phone, which had only one notification and an order.
What did I do? I said to myself.
In just a few months, I left a stable, high-paying job to go after what was in my head, an insane idea of starting a corporate gifting company. No experience. No contacts. No money in the bank. Just me, my ideas, and my brand name, Rushank, which I chose after Lord Shiva.
That night, I went to sleep when my mom came in to check on me. "Beta, dinner?"
I agreed but didn’t move.
In the early months, the universe had it out for me. I worked with what was to be my first vendor, whom I had trusted to fulfill that first order of mine. But he dropped out at the last minute with three days to go until delivery. The client ghosted me. I kept wandering for 48 straight hours without sleep, sorting this out.
That eventually introduced me to the harsh reality of marketing. I spent an entire Sunday creating what I thought was the perfect reel for promotion. I edited till my eyes were bloodshot. Then I posted it with shaking fingers.
Two likes were there, and one of them was from my cousin!
However, the strength would not die. With my backpack full of sample prototypes, wrapped in anything that remotely seemed good, I began to jump on the trains of the night.
I smile as I remember I had a wrinkled shirt from the train journey, sweating in lobbies, and rehearsing throws in the bathroom mirror before the meetings, which only led to rejections.
Bruised rejections to Bangalore. Nothing glamorous there, too, just a pharmaceutical manufacturer sitting on the side of the city, but something magical had happened. They really heard.
"250 Personalized Gift Hampers. Can you deliver it in two weeks?" I immediately said, “Yes,” but then I did a quick check in my head to see if I really could.
Back in Mumbai, the room turned into a war zone. My mother sat next to me and we labelled all the boxes by hand.
Back to Bangalore, I went to personally supervise the delivery. The smiles broke out on their faces when their team unfolded the gifts.
"This is exactly what we envisioned," they said.
That moment. Right there. Rushank Gifting Co. was truly born in my heart, and not just on paper.
That one client gave three more referrals. Those three gave rise to the next ten.
Today, we've worked with over 150 clients—from tech, real estate, education, finance, and pharmaceutical companies, to nationwide deliveries in India.
Because I wasn't named after Lord Shiva just by chance. I was meant to create. To destroy doubt. To rebuild faith.
And maybe that's the real gift I've been delivering all along.
