Vijay Gupta: Building HOZO® from a Hyundai EON to Tech-Driven Mobility Solutions

As I begin, I'd like to introduce myself and share my entrepreneurial journey. I will use the metaphor of my first office—the small Hyundai EON car—to illustrate how I had no capital but plenty of uncertainty.
As a child, I grew up in Agra and moved to a tiny village in Uttar Pradesh with my grandparents. Life was very primitive, and the resources available to me were inadequate. However, my family was very firm about the values that they had instilled in me. After living with them for six years, I moved to Delhi, where I attended a government school, completed a B.Com degree by correspondence, and an MBA at SMU while working full-time.
My education was very basic, so I relied on my real-life experiences to teach me what I needed to know about business.
My first job was at an agarbatti factory. After that, I worked night shifts at Domino's Pizza, in retail with Trent (Westside), and had various positions with two different Auto Sales & Relocation firms. There was no direct route to where I am today, just lessons in persistence, survival, and learning along the way. Each of these jobs taught me valuable lessons about business and working with customers.
With no money in the bank, no investors, and no office, I quit my job to start something new with my business partner & school friend, Pawan Kumar. Our company was called Universal Relocation Services & Management.
We assisted expats and diplomats moving to India as we created our business out of our car in Delhi during the hot summer months and during rush-hour traffic (we even helped a few strangers with directions).
We did everything from searching for homes and completing visa applications to furnishing homes and managing exit formalities—making sure strangers felt the way we wanted to feel at home.
“Serving with honesty always brings greater results.”
And it did.
What came out of that Hyundai EON was an even bigger vision—to change how people relocate using technology. That vision has now become a reality through HOZO® (creating a seamless and human way to relocate), Hozo Cars (supporting corporate travel and events), and GATII (powered by URSM – the tech-enabled mobility platform that simplifies corporate travel across India).
From starting at zero to now building and managing a team of 50 people, and evolving into tech and AI-driven solutions for expats and migrants, this journey has been about constant reinvention.
Success for me is not measured by revenue or recognition.
It’s knowing where I came from.
It’s providing jobs.
It’s building an Indian company to world-class standards.
I no longer drive around in that Hyundai EON.
However, the spirit of that car still motivates me daily.
Because there’s one thing I've learned:
You can establish a successful future without a powerful background.
