How Satyendra Gupta Built Neoperk Technologies to Transform Soil Testing in India

Satyendra Gupta and his team spent years looking into the Soil Health Card (SHC) scheme in India. Not from afar, but with their feet on the ground, they talked with many farmers and lots of government officials during their time in Maharashtra. What they noticed was not a technology issue, but a timing issue.

Soil testing needed to happen in real time before sowing—not weeks after or with one operator collecting only 10–15 samples each day. No matter how advanced the soil testing device is, it cannot create enough volume for a real positive change.

That insight changed everything.

In 2019, they started Neoperk Technologies with one goal: helping farmers in India by making testing soil and plants effective, low-cost, and turning data into action. They didn't do it for a global benchmark, but for the villages in India and to fill the gaps in our current crop nutrient ecosystem.

They set up a business-to-business model by partnering with large networks of farmers. They trained local people and aggregated demand for soil testing at scale. Therefore, volume provided the economics, and scale had a real impact.

Today, at Neoperk, they provide two flagship products:

NeoSoil Plus, verified using ICAR-NBSS&LUP, tests for 14 parameters in under 2 minutes with NIR spectroscopy and uses no chemicals or reagents.

NeoPlant provides high-speed and precise testing of 16 essential parameters in crop tissues through the use of NIRS and ML technology. These include macro and micronutrients, nitrogen fractions, and trace elements across all horticultural crops.

With this technology in mind, they created an end-to-end solution designed not for global use, but specifically for the farmers that needed to access it the most.

Their passion is not driven by technology; it is fuelled by seeing a farmer receive an actionable, usable soil test result in 2 minutes rather than weeks, and, as a result, make a better decision about their land.

To them, entrepreneurship means more than just creating something of value; it also means solving a problem where a system fails an intended user and refusing to turn away until it is resolved.
